Facial Laser BBL

Broadband Light (BBL) Skin Rejuvenation in Columbus, OH

BBL (Broadband Light) is an innovative light-based technology that sets the standard in non-surgical light-based facial rejuvenation. BBL is far superior to conventional Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) having proven to be a more precise age-defying treatment that results in younger, clearer, and brighter-looking skin. At Zochowski Plastic Surgery we offer the most advanced technology in light therapy to treat skin conditions associated with aging and pigmentation irregularities, with little or no downtime and exceptional long-term benefits.

Broad Band Light (BBL) Overview

BBL works by directing light energy into the skin which is then converted to heat as it reaches its target.  The target can be pigment in the skin, pigment in the hair, redness of blood vessels, and even the bacteria that causes acne. When the heat energy hits the target, it is absorbed, damaging the targeted tissue. This causes destruction and eventual elimination of the target from the skin. The healing response activates production of healthy collagen and elastin, resulting in skin that appears more refined, with even color and texture giving a more youthful appearance.

With advances in light technology, BBL now provides a more accurate and effective treatment method to deliver superior results.

Dr Zochowski & his trained staff can design treatments personalized for your skin and precisely target concerns such as:

  • Signs of sun damage, including sun spots, areas of “leathery” skin, and freckles.
  • Small vascular lesions such as spider veins, broken capillaries and visible blood vessels.
  • Skin laxity.
  • Uneven skin texture and tone.
  • Unwanted hair.

Extensive studies and research have proven that regular BBL treatments can prevent cellular aging and essentially turn back the clock by causing the DNA expression of skin cells to reverse back to a youthful, healthy state, literally reversing the aging process. To maintain optimal results, regularly scheduled BBL treatments 2-4 times per year will continue to delay visible signs of aging.

What to Expect During BBL Treatment

BBL treatments are quick and convenient. Most treatments can be done in 20 to 45 minutes without causing the patient significant discomfort. You can simply relax in a reclined position while our well-trained practitioners use BBL to rejuvenate your skin. A pair of goggles will be provided to protect your eyes and a chilling device to cool your skin. Patients are able to return to work (and resume normal activities) immediately after their treatment.

Initially, a series of 1 to 3 BBL treatments is recommended at 4-6-week intervals. Maintenance treatments are recommended 2 to 4 times per year for optimum rejuvenation and prevention of skin cell aging. BBL can be safely applied to the face, chest, back, neck, arms, and hands.

Does BBL Have Any Side Effects?

BBL treatment has very few potential side effects. Treatments that require more intense intervention, like scar and age spot removal, may cause minor localized scabbing. However, unlike chemical peeling, BBL treatment will not cause the skin to flake and peel away. Patients sometimes notice a bit of redness after their BBL treatment, but this usually fades within 24 hours. Sun spots or hyperpigmentation can appear darker for a few days after treatment before the skin begins to slough treated areas. Because BBL treatment doesn’t harm the skin or make it feel raw, patients can usually cover this redness with makeup if they want to.

It is important not to have tanned skin when scheduling your BBL treatment. BBL treatments for brown spots target brown pigmentation.

If you have a tan or have used a self-tanner, the BBL won’t be able to tell the difference between the color on your skin and the pigmentation you want to fade. It will prevent the energy from passing deep into the skin to target the brown spots and will instead be targeting your skin. It can also lead to blisters, scars, and hypo/hyper-pigmentation of the skin. Even a tan that’s barely visible can make the difference between a good result and potential complications. BBL laser therapy also makes the skin temporarily more susceptible to sun damage after treatment. For the first week after your treatment, you’ll need to be vigilant about regularly applying medical-grade sunscreen. We also advise patients who’ve had BBL to continue to protect their skin from sun exposure to maintain the best result.
